Treasures of The Past – ELA project for my school

Hello everyone! I hope all of yall are doing great! I am sorry that I have been not posting on this blog a lot. I have been very busy with school and moving. But now that I am settled, I hope I will post more and more often.

In my school, we have been doing a lot of projects. And in ELA I wrote a prologue of a story for my project. I really like the prologue and the way I wrote it so I thought I’d share it with you guys. I hope yall enjoy. So here we go!

Treasures of The Past

I took a deep breath as I stepped out of the car. The salty fragrance of the ocean filled my lungs. I scanned the horizon and sighed as I searched the crowded beach for my best friend, Amber.

I honestly had forgotten how crowded the beach could be and to be honest, I am surprised by myself. After all, I had come to the beach about 6 months ago. Before they disappeared. I blinked back tears as I remembered the smiling faces of Nate and Lilly Quinn, my parents.

Hope, I reminded myself. Hope, there is still hope that I might find them, after all that is the reason why I choose this place with Amber. It was the last time I saw them. So there have to be some clues for why they did what they were doing. I shook myself, my way to calm down.

“I hope you have a great time with Amber and her family. Remember, I and Dave are only a phone away. You can call us anytime and we can pick you up.” Kelly called out of the car window. Her expression shifted to a softer one as she reminded me to have fun. I smiled and pretended to look forward to this ‘Vacation.’ Truth be told, I hadn’t told her what I was planning to do. I haven’t told anyone except for Amber.

I waited for the car to go out of sight. As soon as the car turned the corner I texted Amber that I was there. Almost immediately she texted back. I smiled as I read the text, Yay! Meet us in front of the hotel. My parents checked out 2 rooms. One for you and me and one for my parents.

I sighed as I heaved the bag over my back. I shook my hands, preparing to carry the heavy load of luggage. I look ahead of me to the front of the hotel. There was no one there. She must have meant the front inside of the hotel, I thought coming to a conclusion.

I grabbed the duffle bag, grateful for one – having only one duffle bag and two – that the door to the hotel wasn’t that far away. About halfway to the hotel, I heard someone snort. “Need some help with that?” I turned around to see a girl that looked to be around my age, maybe a year older. I gasped as I realized who it was. “Amber!” I squealed as I dropped everything I was carrying and gave Amber a deadly hug. “Bella, I can’t breathe!” She exclaimed, pretending to gag.

I blinked back the liquid that flooded my eyes. I ducked my head as we pulled away from the hug. “What happened?” Amber asked.“I just have allergies,” I lied ducking my head again. There was an awkward silence between us.

“Why don’t we go inside?” Amber asked, pointing to the hotel. “We can meet my parents there and go to our room to set up the time machine.”

I thought over this idea. This way we can start the search ASAP. I pondered over this idea for a long time. Finally, I nodded and walked to the front of the hotel with Amber. I pulled out my phone and texted Kelly and Dave that I was with Amber and her family.

“You okay?” Amber asked, ducking down to see my face.

I took a moment to answer. The truth was that I wasn’t.

“It’s just that, I may never see Kelly and Dave again. Even though they are not my real parents they still gave me a home and helped me when things were tough for me.” There was silence between us. “I just want to say thanks to you. I mean you are my best friend and all but you never had to do this.” I paused.

“You may not ever see your friends and family ever again. And I want to let you know that you can still drop out now if you want. I wouldn’t mind. Really.” I gave her a long hug. I had told her the truth. Well, partially. The truth was, I wanted her to come with me. But I don’t want her to get hurt. After all, if she did, it would be all my fault.

There was another silence as which we walked to the front of the hotel.

“There you are!” Amber’s mother, Lily said, giving me a bear hug. I honestly really like Lilly. She is like my own mother but like a sister at the same time. She has straight red hair with light almost gray eyes.

“We were talking about…stuff,” Amber said, walking over to her dad to hug him. “Yea, we were talking about what we were gonna do while we’re here,” I respond, in an attempt to rescue Amber.

“Well then, what have y’all decided to do?” Lilly asked Amber as she gave me the keys to the hotel room we were gonna share. “Well, first we’re gonna set our room up and make a little fort. Then we will make a sign for the door which will probably say ‘Only girls ages 12-13 allowed!’ So if yall want to come inside, yall will have to wait and do the chicken dance.” Amber says doing the chicken dance and ending with a little fancy curtsy.

“Well then, if you two girls are planning to do all that today, you should get started quickly,” Lilly said, nodding toward the elevator.

“So, you’re saying that we can go to our rooms right now?” I ask just to make sure I was seeing and hearing things right. Lilly nodded, giving us a big hug.

“Bye mom, bye dad! And remember don’t knock on the door unless you want to do the Chicken dance!” Amber yelled as we both started speed-walking to the elevator. As soon as Amber stepped into the elevator, I pressed the button for the 6th floor.

“Remember that time we were in the elevator near midnight and it broke down? That was perhaps the scariest thing I have ever experienced. We were there alone, at midnight, without telling our parents that we sneaked out.” I chuckled at the memory. We stood in silence for the rest of the time. Suddenly I gasped as the elevator stopped but thankfully a second later there was a Ding! And the elevator’s door flew open.

“For a second there I thought the elevator broke down again,” I say laughing.

“Me too!” Amber squeals as she ducks down to catch her breath. But instead of waiting for her, I dash to our room, 602. And just as I put down all of my luggage Amber comes in, shutting the door and jumping on the bed.

I walked over to the study table which was in front of a window, a perfect place to set the time machine. I drop my backpack on the ground near the front of the table. From the backpack, I pulled out a palm-sized purple disk – the time machine. I carefully put it on the desk and called Amber over.

“Are you sure you want to do this? You don’t have to. After all, this might be the last time you may ever see your parents.” I tell her. She takes a moment to decide.

“I am your best friend and I will stay by your side no matter what so I will come with you and you can’t do anything about it at all.”

I sigh as she hugs me. “Well before we go anywhere we should probably say bye to our parents. I’ll text mine and you can leave a note here for yours.” I whisper to her not looking away from the purple disk. She nods and I hand her a piece of paper and a pen. Then I pull out my phone and text Kelly and Dave that I love them and not to worry about me and that I am OK.

After a minute Ambers’ is done too and I help her tape it to the wall in front of the desk. “Are you ready?” I ask as I hold her hand.

“Ready as I’ll ever be bestie!” She responds.

I take a deep breath and press the button on the time machine. This was it, we were going back in time to find out what happened to my parents. And this time, I was not alone.
