Agnes at the End of the World by Kelly Mcwilliams – Book Summary

Hello everyone! Today I am going to talk about and give a summary of perhaps one of my favorite books of all time – Agnes at the End of the World by Kelly Mcwilliams. So let’s dive in!

Source – Goodreads

Agnes is raised in Red Creek. She loves her home, the peaceful silence, the mornings, and above everything, she loves the way god is surrounding it. She and the others believe that god is protecting her and the other citizens from harm…but only if they didn’t do anything sinful.

Without a doubt, she follows the prophet’s strict rules and avoids anything the prophet says is a sin. But little did Agnes know that the prophet was just a normal madman who was making up rules and sins.

But even Agnes has a deep sinful secret. Every month Agnes smuggles out to receive medicine from Matilda, an outsider who is a nurse. She does this for her youngest brother – Ezekiel who has Type 1 diabetes and will die without the medicine.

Later on in the story, she starts to resave the medicine for her brother by Danny, Matilda’s son. But after Meeting Danny, her life changes. She starts to question what is and isn’t a sin and all the rules she has to follow.

In the end, she realizes that with the help of Danny, she must run away from Red creek with Ezekiel. But the outside isn’t safe either, it turns out that a viral pandemic is wrecking the outside world too. Agnes, Ezekiel, Danny, and his friends must find a way to survive.

This book is a blend of Agnes’s perspective and Beth’s perspective (Agnes’s younger sister). Is it really the end of the world like people say it is? Well, I guess yall will have to read Agnes at the End of the World to find out!
